💡FAQs

I already have a phone… why would I need this?

You already have a phone, but it’s designed to interrupt you.

Even simple actions, checking time, starting a timer, pulls you into notifications, messages, and apps.

PaperTix removes that loop:

  • ⏱️ Local weather, timers, alarms, stopwatch; instant, no unlocking, no UI friction
  • 🌍 Always-visible time zones on crisp paperlike E-Ink, no screen wake, no context switch
  • 🎚️ USB volume/media control — adjust audio without switching apps or breaking focus
  • 🔵 Focus indicator — signals “do not disturb” to others

It handles the 5-second tasks without turning them into 5 minutes.

📵 It doesn’t replace your phone, it keeps you from needing it.

Is this open source? What if the project stops evolving?

☁️ No cloud, no accounts, no apps.

  • Everything runs locally-timers, alarms, time zones, stopwatch, volume-no lock-in, no service risk.
  • 🧰 Browser-based tools (time sync, firmware updates) run fully client-side—no backend to break or shut down, with static hosting on free tiers.
  • 🔒 Not open-source today.
  • 🌱 If development slows, the tools and site will be released so the community can maintain and extend them.

🛡️ Bottom line: no matter what, core features always work, tools remain accessible, and there’s a clear long-term path.

Do you design and manufacture everything yourself?

All firmware, software, PCB designs, and enclosure concepts are created in-house. Manufactured PCBs and E-Ink displays are sourced offshore.

📍 Design and development happens in British Columbia, Canada

🖨️ Enclosures are produced locally by BC, Canada based Lagendary 3D

Is enclosure 3D printed? Do you provide print files?

🏭 Yes, the enclosure is 3D‑printed locally here in BC, Canada by Lagendary 3D!

It’s made from PETG, which offers excellent durability, impact resistance, and long‑term stability.

🔍 Every component is individually inspected before it ships, so you always receive a clean, reliable print.

📁 If you purchase the kit, the print files are included for download, so you can reprint, tweak, or customize the enclosure anytime you want.

Where do you ship from? and where to?

📦 We ship from BC, Canada

🇨🇦 Across Canada

🇺🇸 Across the USA

Once shipping to Canada and the US is fully tested and stable, we’ll expand to additional countries.

Why name QrioTix and PaperTix?

🤖 QrioTix

The name is a word‑play on “Curious” and “Robotics.”

It reflects the spirit of exploring, tinkering, and building clever little devices.

📄 PaperTix

This one combines “Paper” (because of the e‑paper display) with “Ticks”, the steady ticks of time, like an analog clock.

🛠️ How To & Support

How to do time sync or firmware update?

🧭 1. Open the Tool

Go to Qriotix.link using any Chromium‑based browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, etc.).

🔍 2. Discover Your Device

Select “Discover Devices”.

When your browser prompts you, choose “PaperTix” and tap Allow.

⏱️ 3. Choose What You Want to Do

  • Press Sync to update the device’s time.
  • Press Update to install new firmware.

🔄 4. Confirm the Update (if updating)

If you choose firmware update, the browser will ask you to confirm the device again and then confirm the update.

You’ll see the progress bar right on the PaperTix screen.

⚠️ Important Note

Keep the update window in focus during the process — switching tabs or windows can slow the update dramatically.

What OS does it support?

💻 Tested on Windows 11 and macOS
🐧 Should work on Linux too, but not fully tested yet

What browser does it support?

🌐 For time sync and firmware updates, use any Chromium-based browser like Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge

Jut got the device, how do I set it up now?

🎥 Follow the setup videos on our youtube page.

They walk you through everything step‑by‑step, from assembly to syncing time and updating firmware.

Can I customize the display or firmware?

🖋️ Fonts & Faces

Different font styles and additional clock faces are planned for future updates.

There’s also a possibility that users will eventually be able to design their own faces — just not in the near term.

🔧 Firmware

The firmware isn’t open‑source at the moment, so deep customization isn’t available yet.

However, the device is designed with a clean, modular codebase, which makes future expansion (and potential community‑driven features) much easier.

In short: customization is coming, but the current focus is stability, reliability, and a smooth user experience.

How durable is the 3D‑printed enclosure?

Enclosure is made with PETG.

🧱 PETG is one of the most durable 3D‑printing materials available.

It’s tougher than PLA, more flexible, and far more resistant to cracking. For everyday use, it holds up extremely well.

☀️ Heat & Sunlight

PETG handles heat better than PLA, but like any plastic, long‑term direct sunlight can cause some discoloration or slight warping over years, not days. Normal indoor sunlight is totally fine.

💥 Drops & Impacts

PETG has good impact resistance.

A fall from a desk or table is unlikely to damage the enclosure unless it hits a sharp corner or lands on something hard. It’s designed to survive real‑world use.

🌡️ Temperature Stability

It stays stable in typical home/office environments.

Only extreme heat (like being left on a car dashboard in summer) can soften it.

🧽 Everyday Wear

It doesn’t crack easily, doesn’t get brittle over time, and handles handling, moving, and daily use without issues.
